Jan Geissler is the founder and CEO of Patvocates, a think tank, consultancy, and social enterprise in patient advocacy, health policy, and patient engagement in research. From 2012-2017, he was Director of the European Patients’ Academy (EUPATI), which created medicine development processes education for patients. Jan currently manages the German EUPATI platform and also a work package leader for the new IMI2-funded EU project HARMONY on big data for better outcomes in hematology.
After receiving his university diploma in Business Studies in 1999, Jan held various management positions in telecommunications, R&D, and media think tanks before focusing his professional life on patient advocacy in 2008. Having been a leukemia patient since 2001, Jan co-founded LeukaNET/Leukaemie-Online.de in 2002, the European Cancer Patient Coalition in 2003, the CML Advocates Network in 2007, the Leukemia Patient Advocates Foundation in 2011, the Workgroup of European Cancer Patient Advocacy Networks (WECAN) in 2015, and the Acute Leukemia Advocates Network in 2016.
In addition, Jan is a member of the Ethics Committee of the Bavarian Chamber of Physicians and represents patients on various advisory boards and committees, including ISPOR Patient Roundtable Europe (of which he is also committee chair), European Cancer Organisation (ECO), EHA, EORTC, EuroBloodNet, Berlin Institute of Health, International CML Foundation, the German National Decade Against Cancer, and EU Cancer Mission Assembly.
